Why might you book to see a counsellor?

There are all sorts of reasons why you might book to see me.

  • You might feel anxious or low.
  • You might feel irritable or full of rage.
  • You might have experienced loss- of a loved one, a career, your health, your hopes and dreams.
  • You might have big changes in your life and you’ve no idea how you can navigate through them.
  • You might be dissatisfied with how life has turned out and wonder what you can do about it and is it too late?
(Spoiler alert – It’s never too late!)
  • You might wonder about why you have so little self-esteem and how this shows itself at work and home.
  • You might feel hollow inside.
  • You might be struggling to live how the world says you should, and wonder about living your own life instead.

I can support you so that you can find answers, you can find your spark again, the essence of you, so that you have the confidence to live your life your way.

Starting counselling

Starting counselling can feel intimidating.

It’s very common to think that other people’s problems are more important than your own.

Sometimes it’s hard to know where to start because you’re not even sure what it is you’re asking for. This can be especially difficult for people who are generally good at thinking their way through problems.

That’s something I’m used to working with, and we can explore that together.

Or you might know you want to talk about something specific but struggle with the idea of asking for help for all kinds of reasons, not least because we have the idea that we are meant to be able to work everything out for ourselves.

But if an issue feels important, then it doesn’t matter how big or small you think it looks through others’ eyes — what matters is that it is significant to you.

How I work

It is my firm belief that the relationship between us is the greatest asset in working towards your wished-for change. It’s that relationship that provides the safe space in which you can know that your feelings and needs are accepted. And, perhaps surprisingly, it’s that relationship that provides the necessary foundation for the start of whatever needs to happen.

I also hold that whilst I have a certain expertise, you are your own expert- you just don’t know it yet. So I don’t have lots of off-the-peg advice, instead we find your own personal answers together to whatever is important to you.
